Laser Vein Treatments

What is the CoolGlide system

What is the CoolGlide system?

CoolGlide is a procedure made possible by the xeo’s flexible laser-based system. The xeo hand piece is moved over the targeted veins, delivering gentle pulses of infrared light. This light targets the hemoglobin in the unwanted blood vessels, causing the blood to coagulate and the vein to disintegrate. Over several weeks, the vein is absorbed into your body, with its blood flow redirected, resulting in a clear, vein-free appearance. The CoolGlide’s flexible wavelength permits treatment on all types of skin, no matter how light or dark. This minimally invasive treatment produces almost no bruising or blistering.

Types of leg veins

Leg veins are a common condition, and they come in several easily identifiable types. Varicose veins are swollen blood vessels raised above the surface of the skin. Though they are often painless, these highly visible types of veins can make walking or standing painful. Spider veins are smaller patterns of veins colored red, blue, or purple that often radiate outward from a central point like the legs of a spider. Fortunately, these and other types of subsurface veins can be effectively treated with the Cutera xeo’s CoolGlide system.

CoolGlide Vs. Scelrotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a procedure for treating varicose veins that dates back to the 1930s. A concentrated saline (salt) solution is injected into the vein directly. Over three to six weeks, the vein disappears. Though sclerotherapy is effective, it requires the use of painful, repeated injections. CoolGlide, by contrast, is noninvasive, using laser light to affect the vein without breaking the skin. For this reason, patients and physicians alike prefer CoolGlide.

What is CoolGlide therapy like?

CoolGlide may produce a stinging sensation when the hand piece delivers its laser light, which is easily addressed using a topical anesthetic. After the treatment, most patients experience little to no pain. The targeted skin may redden or swell, though this effect should subside within 24 hours. You should avoid exercise and other intense physical activities for 24 hours, and apply sunscreen to the treated area. Your leg veins will show improvement within two to six weeks.
